Flim Labs

FLIM LABS is a pioneering company in fluorescence lifetime analysis technology, founded in Italy in 2019. With early funding support from Regione Lazio and later development funds from startup programs from Regione Emilia Romagna and Photon Hub Europe, the company has rapidly grown in the field. Since January 2024, FLIM LABS has led the LaserBlood EIC Pathfinder consortium, developing an innovative liquid biopsy method for early pancreatic cancer detection.

Dedicated to accessibility and innovation, FLIM LABS designs reliable, portable, and user-friendly tools for fluorescence lifetime analysis. Their plug-and-play instruments enable real-time data acquisition and processing, making advanced fluorescence technology more practical and widely available. As one of the few companies specializing in fluorescence lifetime analysis, FLIM LABS is breaking down barriers, making this technology accessible to a broader scientific and industrial community.

To drive its contributions to LaserBlood, FLIM LABS has assembled a skilled team. Dr. Alessandro Rossetta, CEO, leads project management and technology development, while Dr. Marco Casadei focuses on software optimization as well as project management. Enrico Lenzi refines hardware and experimental setups, ensuring precision and efficiency. Gianluigi Montanari oversees financial and project management, ensuring smooth execution, and Federico Citterich manages communication and dissemination efforts to promote the project’s findings and increase its impact.

As the coordinator of LaserBlood, FLIM LABS plays a key role in project execution, financial oversight, and research dissemination. Most importantly, it is at the forefront of developing fluorescence-based blood analysis technology, paving the way for early pancreatic cancer detection through liquid biopsy and reinforcing its commitment to life-saving innovations.

Flim Labs’ WP leader – Dr Alessandro Rossetta

Dr. Alessandro Rossetta earned a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa in April 2022, where he developed advanced electronic instrumentation for fluorescence analysis.

As CEO of FLIM LABS SRL, he integrates technical expertise with business leadership, overseeing research and development, marketing, intellectual property, customer relations, and supplier management.

Since January 2024, he has also served as the coordinator of LaserBlood, an EU-EIC Pathfinder project dedicated to leveraging fluorescence lifetime analysis for the development of a non-invasive blood screening tool for early pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
